The “World Salt Awareness Week” is commemorated annually by the global community, led by the World Action on Salt, Sugar and Health (WASSH) initiative. In 2022 it was observed from the 14th to 20th of March 2022, under the theme “Shake the Salt Habit”. Hence a national “Salt Awareness Week” has been declared from 14th to 20th March 2022. The Directorate of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) of the Ministry of Health has conducted several activities in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the Sri Lanka Medical Nutrition Association at the national and district levels to increase public awareness of the importance of reducing salt consumption.
Several district level activities including public and staff screening and awareness programs related to NCDs are coordinated by the district MO-NCD attached to the relevant RDHS offices, with due assistance from the institutional heads and the Clinical Nutrition Physicians/ Medical Officer-Clinical Nutrition, Medical officer -NCD in the hospitals.
