The Grand Finale of Low Salt Cooking Challenge – 2021 was held on the 30th of October 2021 at Galle Face Hotel. Madam Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa (1st Lady to the 5th executive president of Sri Lanka, current Prime minister ) attended the event as the chief guest. Dr Amal Harsha de Silva, Secretary, State Ministry of Backward Rural Areas Development and Promotion of Domestic Animal Husbandry & Minor Economic Crop Cultivation, Dr Olivia Nieveras, Public Health Administrator for World Health Organization, Sri Lanka participated as Guests of honour. Dr Renuka Jayatissa, President of, Sri Lanka Medical Nutrition Association, many officials from the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization participated in the event.
National low salt cooking challenge 2021 is being held in Sri Lanka, organized by the Sri Lanka Medical Nutrition Association (SLMNA) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), Ministry of Health, and Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka.
National Low salt cooking challenge 2021 was planned to increase awareness among the public and those engaged in food technology/ culinary science about the importance of reducing salt consumption.
The cooking competition was organized in 3 rounds. For the 1st round, 40 teams each consisting of 3 members from predefined categories, from all over the island were selected. Both 1st and 2nd rounds were held as virtual competitions. The top 05 teams with the highest marks were selected for the Grand Finale.
The team from Nuwara Eliya districts won 1st place. Chilaw team 2nd place and the Mathale team won 3rd place.
The event was held strictly adhering to the COVID-19 rules and regulations.
