5TH Clinical Nutrition Annual Academic Sessions – 2020

The Sri Lanka Medical Nutrition Association (SLMNA) invites the submission of original research and case-studies in the form of abstracts for presentation at the 5th Clinical Nutrition Annual Academic Sessions – 2020. All accepted abstracts will be published in the Proceedings Book of the Clinical Nutrition Annual Academic Sessions – 2020.

Key dates:
• Abstract submission opens: July 29th 2020
• Abstract submission closes: September 15th 2020
• Abstract decisions: 15th October, 2020

The deadline for submission of the abstracts: 15th September 2020 Abstract presentations

Abstracts will be presented in 2 ways:
• Oral presentations
• Poster presentation

Submission
To be considered; each submission should include the following documents.
• Abstract
• The author’s declaration form.
• Authors should send in their abstracts to the Editor by 15th September 2020 to the following email: slmna2015@gmail.com
• Guidelines for preparation of the abstract are given below. Please follow the instructions carefully.
• Please note that abstracts which are not prepared according to the guidelines provided, or submitted after the deadline, will not be considered.

Guidelines for submission of abstracts

1) Guidelines for preparation of abstracts

I.  The abstract must report original research.
II.  Any medical officer or medical specialist can submit Abstracts.
III.  The title should be brief and explain the study reported. Capital letters should be used only for the first letter in the first word of the title and proper nouns.
IV. The author/s names and addresses – Capital letters should be used only for the initials and the first letters of the surnames of authors. The address of the Institution in which the work was carried out should be included under the author’s name. If the collaborators are from different Institutions, the addresses of the Institutions should be included in brief. In this case, the addresses of the co-authors should be indicated by a number in superscript after the author’s names are before the respective addresses (as shown below).

V.  The text of the abstract should not exceed250 words.
VI.  Standard abbreviations of SI units should be used.
VII. The abstract should be coherent and free of language errors.
VIII. Abstract should be submitted by email.
IX.  A maximum of five keywords should be provided.
X.  Acknowledgements should be restricted to the names of funding agencies providing sponsorship.
XI. Use font “Times New Roman” size 11 with 1.5 spacing on A4 paper.
XII. The study should have taken ethical clearance from an Ethical      Review Committee. A scanned copy of ethical approval letter should be attached together with the abstract (Applicable only for original research abstracts).

2) Declaration by the authors

I. The annexed declaration form must be signed and returned by the Corresponding Author via email (scanned copy) along with each abstract/extended abstract submitted.
II.  All correspondence will be addressed to the Corresponding Author.
III. In the event that if the presenter indicated in the application is unable to present the paper it is the responsibility of the Corresponding Author either to withdraw the paper in advance or arrange for one of the Co-Authors to present the paper.

Sri Lanka Medical Nutrition Association actively contributed to “Mahajana Suwadhana 2017” exhibition which was organized by The Ceylon College of Physicians. It was held on 14th to 16th July at BMICH. We were able to provide free medical nutrition counselling with the aid of live food demonstrations. The minister of Health Dr.Rajitha Senarathne also praised our efforts at the exhibition. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to The Ceylon College of Physicians for providing this opportunity.

A series of lectures were organized by SLMNA during the last few months at several teaching hospitals including the De Zoysa Maternity Hospital, Lady Ridgeway Hospital and Teaching Hospital, Karapitiya. Health staff in those hospitals enthusiastically attended theses lectures and praised the efforts of SLMNA for sharing the updated knowledge on nutrition with them. The president to the SLMNA, Consultant Medical Nutritionist, Dr. (Mrs.) Renuka Jayatissa was the main speaker in all events. SLMNA has intended to organize more lectures over the next few months of 2017.

Sri Lanka Medical Nutrition Association (SLMNA) had organized the ‘Market Fair 2017’ for the second consecutive year. Market fair is a novel concept introduced by SLMNA to improve the knowledge among members on available nutritional supplements and nutrition related medicines in Sri Lanka. About 12 renowned companies got the opportunity to introduce their nutrition related products to SLMNA members. It was a marvelous opportunity for both the companies and SLMNA members. This was successfully held on the 1st of June 2017 at Hotel Janaki, Colombo.

“Nutrition in emergencies” – training program 2017

Sri Lanka has been facing various kind of emergency situations due to natural disasters in the recent past. When we consider the health, proper nutrition in these situations can be identified as a very important and essential area. Medical officers who get specialized in “Human Nutrition” and “Disaster management” play a key role in providing proper nutrition in emergency situations. Therefore, Sri Lanka Medical Nutrition Association in collaboration with Ministry of Health Sri Lanka, Post Graduate Institute of Medicine and Unicef organized this four-day workshop for trainees in MSc Human Nutrition and Postgraduate diploma in Disaster Management. This workshop was successfully held in hotel Janaki, Colombo from 29th of May to 01st of June 2017.
